Eliminate Your Seasonal Allergies
Spring weather is finally here! This is a breath of fresh air for most people, but for those who suffer from seasonal allergies, the immenent approach of seasonal change isn't so welcome.
Seasonal allergy or "hayfever" is an over-reaction of your immune system to something benign in nature, like pollen, grass or falling leaves. Most doctors don't give the origin of this immune imbalance a second thought - just take the over-the-counter anti-histamines and schlepp through it!
As a naturopthic physician, learning that my patient has seasonal allergies is a lightbulb moment and immediately tells me that this person needs some help to modulate their immune system.
Here are some of my tried-and-tested treatments for eliminating seasonal allergies, start implementing some of these today for better immune health!
MY FAVOURITE NATURAL ANTI-HISTAMINE - QUERCITIN
When your nose starts to run and your eyes start to itch, reach for some quercitin. Quercitin is a flavonoid derived from plants that has natural anti-histamine properties and can help quench your seasonal allergic symptoms. It is also a potent anti-oxidant and is great for heart health, anti-aging, and is a leading natural treatment for gout!

DECREASE INFLAMMATION & IMPROVE GUT HEALTH
Did you know that 70% of your immune system is in your gut?
Eating a diet high in sugar, wheat, and processed foods can cause inflammation in your digestive tract. This can have a direct negative impact on your immune system, leading to other health problems in your body, from seasonal allergies, to autoimmune conditions, eczema, acne, to name a few.
Improving your gut health for balanced immunity is key. Start adjusting your diet today to include more anti-inflammatory and nutrient-rich foods.
My favourite anti-inflammatory superfoods:
- Turmeric
- Highly pigmented fruits & veggies - blueberries, blackberries, cherries, and beets
- Wild caught salmon
- Ginger
- Avocado
- Medicinal mushrooms - reishi and chaga
- All green leafies: spinach, kale, chard, broccoli, dandelion, etc...
